about

Entitled ‘22.16.04’, this new E.P. by glacis explores the conflict between acoustic instruments and technology. Each piece is deliberately designed to explore this tension, which is both beautiful and desperate.

Glacis is the solo piano compositions of Edinburgh based musician Euan McMeeken.

6 copies of the album, packaged in an “Arigato Pak” with screenprinted cover artwork by Jess Pauwels are available direct from the artist at glacismusic@gmail.com. All copies are hand-numbered and feature a 12cmx12cm photo print with tracklisting. Download code is included.

Reviews:
“Glacis, the alias of Euan McMeeken, has perfectly visualised the at times awkward marriage between pure instrumentation and electronic technology. (…) Alongside the piano, the mild, electronic electricity turns into something quite beautiful, like forks of lightning over an untainted, natural environment. The realisation is that technology can support instead of strike – what beautiful music they make together, coupled together in unity.” (Fluid Radio)

“Throughout the twenty-three-minute release, the piano is embedded within electronic soundscapes. (…) In its juxtaposition of acoustic piano and electronic treatments, 22.16.04 puts some degree of distance between itself and other electro-acoustic releases, which bodes well for whatever future life McMeeken has in mind for the Glacis project.” (Textura)

“Comune denominatore di tutti i brani, che scorre appena sotto la loro superficie, resta comunque il tocco lieve ed emozionale di McMeeken, artista ancora una volta capace di rendere tutt’altro che banale l’ormai consolidato accostamento tra strumenti classici ed elettronici.” (Music Won’t Save You)
