Lost Tribe Sound
This is not an album to skip through, start with track 1 and just let it suck you in. You won't find perfectly neat, fit the mold indie songs here, and that is part of its charm. Fantastic stuff yet again from Old Earth!
Favorite track: Track 2.
Described, in his own words, as “Experimental, folk rock” the music of Milwaukee based Todd Umhoefer is not the kind of thing that you will find yourself humming on your way to work. But, like all great music, the more time you spend with it, the more the music pulls you in all different directions, like the roots of a tree, reaching into your very being and affecting you in a way that only great music can. The key is understanding where the art is coming from and where it wants to take you.
In the 30 odd minutes of new album "A Wake in the Wells", Umhoefer takes the great work and potential shown on previous EPs "Small Hours" and "All Kill" and delivers an album of mature focus and intensity. Propelled by innovation, competition, and a sense of hustle more associated with hip hop than folk rock, what sets Old Earth apart from his contemporaries is a sense of drive born out of disgust for the mundane and obvious.
Helped along the way by long time collaborators such as Nick Berg and Chris Porterfield of Field Report, Jon Meuller of Volcano Choir and more of the Milwaukee glitterati, Old Earth has honed his sound over years of hard work. A Wake in the Wells is bigger in every way than previous work and should push Old Earth forward towards the success deserving of such talent.

Tension of opposites and even similars. Rhythmic vs ambient, heartfelt vs scorched earth, melody vs noise and decay, all in the service of the song. Don't be fooled by the first (excellent) track, there's not too many easily identifiable inspirations of the material hear. Save the trainspotting for the 50th listen and until then just get to know THIS record. Anthony Childs

Terry Venemous is releasing new music every 3 weeks this year. His latest EP is sumptuous art pop with a wry sense of detachment.

❤️ The music, the lyrics, the album art-everything about this release is eerie and lovely. It goes right for the shadow nature inherent in all of us, resulting in music which is uncomfortably close even as it plunges into pitch black. Plushie Fanatic
